Main characteristics of Guanajuato



a.  Main resources in Guanajuato:
Industry is the most important segment in the modern state economy, accounting for about 30%. Most of this is the production of automobiles and automobile parts, pharmaceuticals and other modern items. It also includes more traditional items such as processed foods (cheese, canned items and more) as well as shoes and other leather goods in León and a variety of crafts. The economy in this area continues to grow although there has been some drop in its percentage of GDP due to drop in prices for a number of manufactured products. The state has two large thermoelectrical plants in Salamanca and Celaya. Oil refining in Salamanca, which received raw material through pipelines from Poza Rica, Veracruz and from Tabasco. One traditional industry is the making of shoes and other leather items, especially in León. Livestock raising is an important economic activity and can be found in all parts of the state, with animals such cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and domestic fowl. About 95% of the state's visitors are from Mexico, with the rest from other countries. Within the state, there are about seventy hotels ranked as four or five stars. The three main cities for tourism are the capital city of Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and Dolores Hidalgo.

d. The main physical characteristics of Guanajuato are:
 
·       Location- Guanajuato is located at the east of Jalisco, at the south of Zacatecas, at the west of Queretaro and at the north of Michoacan.
 
·       Length- Its extension measures 30768 km2 which is the 1.6% of the National territory.
 
 
·       Climate- the weather is temperate sub humid and medium dry depending on the latitude of the place, and the seasons.
 
e. Guanajuato has 46 municipalities, some of them are Abasolo, Celaya, Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato (the capital), Irapuato, Silao, among others
